Why is Wayne Rooney NOT playing for England at the World Cup 2018, and when is he moving to in USA?

WAYNE ROONEY is England’s all-time leading goalscorer with 53 goals- but he is not playing in Russia for the World Cup

Instead, Harry Kane will be the main attacking threat for the Three Lions, while Rooney continues to close in on a move away from the Premier League.

Why is Wayne Rooney not playing at the World Cup?

Former Manchester United forward Rooney retired from international football in August 2017.

His final game came in November the year before, but had been left out of the England a few months later.

Rooney had intended to retire after the World Cup in Russia, but chose to do so earlier.

Manager Gareth Southgate tried to convince him to return the England fold, but Rooney announced his retirement 10 months ago with immediate effect.

Where is Rooney off to in USA?

After a season back at his boyhood club Everton, the former England striker is now expected to join DC United in the MLS in the US capital.

Rooney scored a club-record 253 goals in 13 years for Manchester United before heading back to Goodison Park.

Despite netting 10 times in 31 Premier League matches, the 32-year-old will follow in the footsteps of other former England internationals like Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard by playing in America.
